North Somerset Council wished to create areas within 5 mainstream schools to provide facilities for pupils with specific needs.
Project Details
Alabas was contracted to provide a resource base at Milton Park Primary in Weston Super-Mare and nurture hubs at 4 further schools all within the North Somerset area.
A resource base provides a place that children with a particular need can use, not just from the host school but also from other schools in the area. In the case of Milton Park the resource base was built to provide 10 additional Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) specialist places at Milton Park
The nurture hubs at the other schools are school specific and designed to provide a safe, stimulating environment for children who find it hard to adapt to their mainstream school.
Both the resource base and the nurture hubs provide a more homely and less institutionalised environment for the children who use them.
Works undertaken:
- Milton Park Primary – Reconfiguration of classrooms, WC’s, Kitchen and outdoor space
- Churchill Primary – Single story extension and outdoor space
- Hans Price Academy – Structural demolitions to create open space and offices
- Broadoak Academy – Classroom alterations & outdoor space
- Crockerne Primary – Classroom alterations & outdoor space
Works on the 5 schools took place concurrently and all schools were completed on time and with a high standard of workmanship.
